In a world where internet fame often feels fleeting, 11-year-old Rayyan Arkan Dikha from Indonesia has managed to do something extraordinary: go viral for preserving tradition, not chasing trends. The boy, now dubbed the “Aura Farming” boat racing kid, has taken social media by storm with a blend of heritage, rhythm, and charisma, drawing attention from celebrities, influencers, and casual viewers alike.

Let’s break down what’s behind the buzz and why it matters beyond just another viral video.

Who is Rayyan Arkan Dikha, and what is ‘aura farming’?

Rayyan Arkan Dikha is a young cultural performer from Riau, Indonesia, whose dance video from a traditional Pacu Jalur boat race has earned him global fame. In the now-viral clip, Rayyan is seen standing at the front of a racing boat, dancing with remarkable poise and fluidity, completely unfazed by the speeding vessel beneath him.

But this isn’t just a stunt or meme-worthy moment. Rayyan is performing the role of Togak Luan, a symbolic dancer traditionally responsible for energizing the boat crew and setting a competitive rhythm. His moves, paired with an almost stoic expression, struck a chord with viewers worldwide, giving birth to the term “aura farming”—a tongue-in-cheek reference to his captivating energy and cool demeanor.

What is the cultural significance of the Pacu Jalur boat race?

The Pacu Jalur is not merely a race—it’s a centuries-old tradition deeply rooted in the Minangkabau culture of Riau Province. Long wooden boats, often measuring over 40 meters in length, compete in narrow river lanes, each boat manned by dozens of rowers.

At the helm of each boat stands the Togak Luan, who performs dances, chants, and rhythmic gestures to keep spirits high and timing sharp. Rayyan’s participation in this role since age nine speaks volumes about both his personal commitment and his family’s generational ties to the event.

How did Rayyan go viral, and what’s the trend about?

The moment Rayyan’s boat race dance hit social media, it didn’t just go viral—it became a trend. Netizens quickly started mimicking his moves, and videos replicating his routine began surfacing across TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).

The term “aura farming” became a playful way to describe the almost spiritual coolness Rayyan exuded, with users praising his calm expressions and effortless confidence. From gamers and influencers to pro athletes and celebrities, everyone seemed to want in on the act.

From viral video to official recognition

Recognizing the cultural and promotional value Rayyan brings, Riau’s Governor Abdul Wahid appointed the boy as Youth Tourism Ambassador for the region. Alongside the honorary title, Rayyan has been granted an educational scholarship—a gesture that many hail as both symbolic and timely.

According to The Economic Times, the move reflects a larger effort to spotlight Indonesia’s local traditions through digital platforms and youth icons like Rayyan.

“Every time my friends see me, they say, ‘You’re viral,’” Rayyan said in an interview with the BBC, adding that the dance was entirely spontaneous.

When can fans see aura farming kid, Rayyan, perform next?

If you’re hoping for a sequel to the viral video, you won’t have to wait long. Rayyan is slated to perform again at the Pacu Jalur National Festival in August 2025, representing his home team, Tuah Koghi Dubalang Rajo.

Why does this story resonate globally?

Rayyan’s rise is more than a feel-good moment; it illustrates how culture, when fused with personality and digital virality, can transcend borders. His dance is not about trending choreography but rather the preservation of a ritual with heart and history. It’s a reminder that internet fame doesn’t have to come at the cost of cultural depth.
