In a bizarre and alarming mid-air incident, passengers on a Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Chicago were forced to physically hold up part of the cabin ceiling after the interior paneling of the plane suddenly collapsed. The unsettling episode occurred on April 14, with footage from inside the aircraft capturing several male passengers reaching upward to support the loose ceiling structure as the aircraft cruised at an altitude of 30,000 feet.

The video was shared on social media by Lucas Michael Payne, a content creator whose business partner was aboard the flight. “My business partner was on a @delta flight from ATL to Chicago on Monday when the roof of the plane collapsed. They were an hour outside of Chicago, had to go back to Atlanta,” Payne wrote alongside the video.

Duct tape to the rescue as passengers brace the panel mid-air

According to Payne, the flight crew eventually stepped in to address the situation, using duct tape to secure the panel in place after passengers had been holding it up for an extended period. “The attendants finally duct-taped it after he held it up for a while,” Payne said, voicing frustration over what appeared to be a makeshift and unprofessional fix.
