Emotional Discovery Reveals Untold Connection Between Co-Stars

In a poignant revelation that bridges past and present, actress Lisa Kudrow recently disclosed finding a two-decade-old note from the late Matthew Perry concealed within a beloved “Friends” prop, adding another layer to the show’s rich legacy and the cast’s enduring bonds.

The unexpected discovery

During a heartfelt conversation on “The Drew Barrymore Show” this Tuesday, Kudrow revealed that she had uncovered a previously unknown message from Perry hidden inside the iconic cookie jar from the “Friends” set. “I had recently found the note that he had in it (the jar) for me,” Kudrow shared with visible emotion.

The cookie jar, a cherished piece of television history, was gifted to Kudrow by Perry himself following the series finale in 2004. “I hadn’t opened it up or looked inside of it,” she admitted, suggesting the note had remained undiscovered for nearly 20 years.

A treasure trove of memories

While the contents of Perry’s note remain private, the timing of its discovery carries particular significance following the actor’s tragic passing in October 2023.

The revelation came amid a discussion about memorabilia from the show’s set. Kudrow acknowledged possessing another keepsake but remained deliberately cryptic about its nature. “I’m too afraid to tell you what,” she confessed. “I can’t say… I’m afraid… someone will come get it.”

Remembering Matthew Perry

Perry, who passed away at 54 in his Pacific Palisades residence, left an indelible mark as Chandler Bing on the iconic sitcom. His death, attributed to “acute effects of ketamine” and drowning according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, brought to light his long-documented struggle with substance abuse.

A touching tribute

Following Perry’s passing, Kudrow shared a moving tribute on Instagram, expressing gratitude for their shared experiences: “Thank you for making me laugh so hard at something you said that my muscles ached, and tears poured down my face EVERY DAY.”

She further acknowledged the unique dynamic of their ensemble cast: “Thank you for your open heart in a six-way relationship that required compromise. And a lot of ‘talking.’ Thank you for showing up at work when you weren’t well and then being completely brilliant. Thank you for the best 10 years a person gets to have.”

The discovery of this hidden note serves as a bittersweet reminder of the deep connections forged during the creation of one of television’s most beloved series while adding another chapter to the lasting legacy of Matthew Perry and the enduring bonds of the “Friends” cast.
