Iconic talk show host and wife reportedly leave the United States for a fresh start in the Cotswolds

In the wake of President-elect Donald Trump’s victory, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have reportedly left the United States and settled in the picturesque Cotswolds region in southwest England. The couple’s move has been linked to their disillusionment with the political climate in America following the election.

According to reports by The Wrap, the famed talk show host and her actress wife are planning to sell their Montecito, California, residence and begin anew in rural England. A source close to the couple revealed, “They’ve talked about their decision to leave the country and never return. Trump’s win was their primary motivation for making this big decision.”

The couple has already been spotted in their new surroundings, including a visit to Jeremy Clarkson’s pub in the Cotswolds.

Seeking a “fresh start” amid past controversies

While Trump’s win catalyzed their move, the relocation may also reflect a desire for a fresh chapter. “It couldn’t hurt,” the source added, referencing the criticism DeGeneres faced in recent years over allegations of a toxic work environment during her time hosting The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The 66-year-old talk show icon, who stepped away from the spotlight after the show’s conclusion in 2022 following a 19-season run, has largely remained out of the public eye.

Political ties and vocal support for Kamala Harris

A longtime supporter of the Democratic Party, DeGeneres has been vocal about her admiration for Vice President Kamala Harris. In August, she expressed her endorsement for Harris on social media, stating, “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come!! I can’t wait for @KamalaHarris to be our next president.”

DeGeneres and de Rossi’s decision to relocate comes as part of a broader wave of reactions from Hollywood divs disenchanted with Trump’s election.

Representatives remain silent

As of now, neither DeGeneres nor de Rossi’s representatives have commented on the reports. However, the couple’s departure has sparked significant discussion, symbolizing the deep political and cultural divides reshaping the American landscape.

Their relocation to the serene Cotswolds underscores both personal and political motivations, reflecting the tensions many high-profile divs feel in a changing America.
