Alex Cooper, host of the popular podcast Call Her Daddy, is facing criticism from some of her fans after she conducted a surprise interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. The interview, released ahead of the November 5 election, sparked outrage among certain members of her loyal “Daddy Gang” who felt the show had ventured too far into politics.

Teaser sparks controversy

A teaser video of the interview was posted to Call Her Daddy’s Instagram on Sunday morning, showing the 30-year-old Cooper in conversation with the Democratic Vice President. While some fans might have expected the podcast’s usual focus on candid discussions about relationships and personal advice, many were unhappy with the political turn.

In the comments section, several fans expressed disappointment and frustration. “One of my most favorite podcasts and now I’ll never listen to it again. Unbelievable,” wrote one user, while another echoed the sentiment, saying, “Oh nooo why did we have to get THIS political?” A third follower added, “DONE, this was my fav podcast. I’m 100% disgusted.”

Criticism for lack of tough questions

Others criticized Cooper for failing to ask Harris about pressing political matters. Many pointed to issues like the administration’s response to Hurricane Helene and the ongoing crisis of illegal immigration. One commenter wrote, “What about the abuse and crime caused by the illegal immigrants flooding the country?” Another called for more substantial questions, suggesting Cooper should have asked Harris about her “best and biggest accomplishment the past 4 years.”

Despite the pushback, Harris took the opportunity to criticize former President Donald Trump during the interview for appointing the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade. The conversation marked a stark contrast to the usual topics discussed on Call Her Daddy, which is known for its unfiltered dialogue about sex and women’s empowerment.

In 2023, Call Her Daddy ranked as the second-best-performing podcast on Spotify. While the interview with Vice President Harris has certainly caused a stir among Cooper’s audience, it remains to be seen whether the show’s pivot into political conversations will affect its long-standing popularity.
