Arizona authorities are asking the public for immediate help in locating Isabella Comas, a 21-year-old woman who vanished under increasingly concerning circumstances. On Tuesday night, Avondale Police and the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) activated a Turquoise Alert, signaling that investigators fear she may be in danger.

The alert has pushed Comas’ name and description onto highway message boards, social media feeds, and broadcast alerts statewide and quickly sparked national interest as searches for “Isabella Comas” and “what is a Turquoise Alert” surged online.

Who is Isabella Comas, and when was she last seen?

Isabella Comas was last seen around 3 p.m. Sunday near 111th Avenue and Van Buren Street in Avondale, Arizona. She was driving a red 2011 Hyundai Sonata with Arizona license plate 2EA6LW.

Friends became alarmed after she failed to show up to pick up a coworker on Monday, something they described as out of character. Attempts to reach her were unsuccessful, and her phone became unreachable despite tracking efforts.

Description provided by police:

• Age: 21
• Height: 5’3”
• Weight: Approximately 110 pounds
• Ethnicity: Hispanic or Latino
• Hair: Pink
• Eyes: Brown
• Clothing:
  • Baggy navy-blue shirt
  • Blue pants with a white stripe
  • Possibly sandals

Authorities say there have been no confirmed sightings since Sunday afternoon.

Why was a Turquoise Alert activated in this case?

DPS activated the Turquoise Alert after investigative leads stalled and concerns about Coma’s safety escalated.

Unlike a missing persons bulletin, a Turquoise Alert triggers statewide dissemination of information through:

• Highway electronic signs (via ADOT)
• Social media and news broadcasts
• Wireless and digital alert systems when a vehicle is involved

Officials say Comas’ sudden silence, missed obligations, and unreachable phone met the threshold for the alert.

Police emphasized that the alert is designed to generate new tips quickly, especially when time is critical.

What is a Turquoise Alert?

A Turquoise Alert is Arizona’s newest public alert system for missing endangered people. It was launched in July 2025 under legislation known as “Emily’s Law.”

How Turquoise Alerts work

The system fills a gap between existing alerts:

• Amber Alerts: Limited to child abductions
• Silver Alerts: Typically for seniors or those with cognitive impairments

Turquoise Alerts apply to endangered missing people under 65, even if they do not have a documented disability.

Key criteria for activation include:

• A confirmed disappearance
• Reasonable belief the person is endangered
• Information that can help the public assist in recovery
• Authorization to use federal and state emergency alert systems

Why the alert is especially significant

The Turquoise Alert was created after the 2025 murder of Emily Pike, a San Carlos Apache tribal member whose disappearance exposed gaps in how missing Indigenous and endangered adults were handled.

Tribal advocates and lawmakers pushed for broader coverage, arguing that many high-risk cases never qualified for Amber or Silver Alerts — and therefore lacked urgency and visibility.

DPS records show the system was first used just weeks after its rollout, highlighting how frequently such gaps had occurred.

What investigators know so far

Avondale detectives and DPS troopers have:

• Canvassed the Van Buren Street area where Comas was last seen
• Verified vehicle and plate information for statewide broadcasts
• Followed up on cellphone tracking pings that produced no contact
• Interviewed friends and coworkers

So far, police say there are no clear signs of a struggle, but that absence has only deepened concern.

Investigators note that Comas is described as independent and reliable — making her sudden disappearance and complete lack of communication especially troubling.

How the public can help

Authorities stress that public vigilance is critical in cases like this. Even small details can make a difference.

What to do if you have information:

• Call Avondale Police Department immediately at 623-333-7001
• Do not approach if you believe you have spotted Comas or the vehicle
• Note the location, time, and direction of travel

Police say tips generated by public alerts have often been the turning point in missing person cases.

Why has this case drawn national attention

The combination of a newly launched alert system, a young woman’s unexplained disappearance, and the distinctive details — including Comas’ pink hair and identifiable vehicle has pushed the case beyond Arizona.

Search trends show widespread curiosity about both Isabella Comas and the Turquoise Alert, underscoring how unfamiliar many Americans still are with the system.

Law enforcement hopes that visibility translates into answers and a safe recovery.
