Did Karen Bass block LAPD from aiding FBI during LA riots? Whistleblower leak ignites controversy
June 9, 2025
10:08
A bombshell whistleblower claim has surfaced alleging that Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass intervened to prevent the LAPD from assisting federal authorities during the height of violent protests that rocked the city. The explosive accusation, initially posted by an Instagram account called defendthelapd, has since gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), sparking fierce backlash and demands for accountability.
The leaked statement paints a damning picture of City Hall’s handling of the unrest, accusing Bass of overstepping her authority and disrupting emergency protocols.
“Last night, when DHS and FBI requested assistance because they were overwhelmed by rioters, LAPD sat idle waiting for direction. Instead of allowing the Incident Commander to act, Mayor Karen Bass bypassed established protocol—she called the IC for a briefing, then called the Chief of Police to tell him what to do,” the post claims.

The whistleblower further alleges that Bass’s actions violated the city’s Emergency Operations Plan and federal National Incident Management System (NIMS) guidelines, effectively paralyzing law enforcement’s ability to respond swiftly.
“This breach of the chain of command prevented the Incident Commander from making crucial operational decisions, put DHS officers, FBI agents, and community members at risk, and delayed immediate LAPD support.”
The post concludes with a call for a federal probe, stating, “This unprecedented political interference demands a federal investigation into potential endangerment of federal personnel and obstruction of emergency response.”

The leak has triggered a firestorm online, with critics accusing Bass of undermining public safety. Shortly after the allegations spread, the mayor addressed the controversy in a post on X:
“We will always protect the constitutional right for Angelenos to peacefully protest. However, violence, destruction and vandalism will not be tolerated in our City and those responsible will be held fully accountable.”

Her response did little to quell the backlash, particularly from conservatives. Former President Donald Trump seized on the unrest, lashing out at Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom on Truth Social:
“Governor Gavin Newsom and ‘Mayor’ Bass should apologize to the people of Los Angeles for the absolutely horrible job that they have done, and this now includes the ongoing L.A. riots. These are not protesters; they are troublemakers and insurrectionists. Remember, NO MASKS!”
We will always protect the constitutional right for Angelenos to peacefully protest. However, violence, destruction and vandalism will not be tolerated in our City and those responsible will be held fully accountable.

As calls for an investigation mount, legal experts weigh in on the potential ramifications. If proven, Bass’s alleged interference could constitute a serious breach of emergency management procedures, with implications for federal-local law enforcement coordination.
Meanwhile, City Hall has yet to issue a detailed rebuttal to the whistleblower’s claims. The LAPD and FBI have also remained silent, leaving key questions unanswered:
With tensions still simmering in Los Angeles, this controversy threatens to escalate into a full-blown political crisis for Bass—one that could define her mayoralty.
