Trump’s lock screen photo: A self-portrait in his pocket

President Donald Trump is once again the subject of online chatter, this time, not for a speech, a rally, or a Truth Social post, but for the photo on his iPhone lock screen. A candid image captured by a Reuters photographer this week appears to show Trump holding his phone, inadvertently revealing a lock screen photo that eagle-eyed users quickly identified. The photo? A dramatic shot of Trump himself. The image, originally taken in 2019 by Getty photographer Chip Somodevilla, shows Trump mid-stride with his finger pointed, en route to a fundraiser at his Bedminster golf club. The bold, almost cinematic frame now seems to serve as Trump’s lock screen photo.

“Is that not… narcissistic?” asks Twitter

Once the detail was spotted, social media users wasted no time reacting. The revelation triggered a fresh wave of online commentary, with many mocking Trump’s apparent self-adoration.

“Trump’s lock screen was spotted on his phone last night, and it was a photo of himself,” one Democratic user tweeted. “Is that not one of the most narcissistic, self-absorbed things you’ve ever seen??? Not his family, not his kids, but himself. Wtf…”

Others chimed in with memes, jokes, and split-screen comparisons to fictional narcissists. One post read, “When you love yourself just enough,” accompanied by a side-by-side image of Trump and a cartoon villain admiring their own reflection.

A pattern of self-branding?

While the moment drew criticism and mockery from opponents, it’s also in keeping with Trump’s larger-than-life approach to branding. From gold-plated interiors to MAGA hats to buildings that bear his name in giant letters, the president has long embraced self-promotion as both an art and a strategy.

Still, using a photo of oneself as a lock screen is a move most public divs avoid—if only to deflect the kind of ridicule now sweeping across social media.

No official comment yet

As of Wednesday afternoon, Trump’s camp had not issued any statement about the lock screen image. But given the president’s track record, it’s unlikely the scrutiny will faze him.

In fact, some supporters defended the choice. “It’s iconic,” one user wrote. “You’ve got to admire someone who never doubts who he is.”

Whether it’s self-love or simple self-branding, one thing is clear: even Trump’s lock screen photo is making headlines.
