Wrestling veteran departs WWE after over a decade, fueling AEW speculation

Ron Killings — better known to fans as R-Truth — has announced his departure from WWE, ending a long and colorful tenure that spanned multiple eras of the promotion. The 53-year-old wrestler made the announcement via social media on Sunday, catching fans by surprise and immediately triggering speculation about his next move, including a potential jump to All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

The announcement comes just a week after Killings shared the ring with John Cena, underscoring how active he remained despite his veteran status. With his contract now expired, Killings becomes a free agent.

“Thank you for the ride”: R-Truth confirms exit

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Killings shared the news with his followers: “I just got released from WWE. I want to thank WWE for the ride, but MOSTLY I want to thank each and EVERYONE OF YOU who was along for the ride.”

The message suggests that WWE opted not to renew his contract, officially bringing an end to one of the most entertaining runs in modern wrestling history.

Could R-Truth join AEW?

The big question now: will R-Truth head to AEW? While no formal negotiations have been confirmed, fans across social media are floating the possibility. AEW, currently valued at approximately $2 billion, has a track record of signing high-profile former WWE talent — from Chris Jericho to Jon Moxley — and recently added names like Mina Shirakawa to its roster.

Truth’s mix of comic timing, in-ring versatility, and crowd connection could offer AEW another unique asset. However, at 53, his role might be more limited, potentially focusing on midcard appearances or mentorship behind the scenes.

Other possibilities for Killings

Beyond AEW, other avenues remain open. Killings is a former TNA World Champion and could return to the promotion where he made history as one of its earliest breakout stars. He may also choose to invest further in his music career or take on more acting roles — both areas he’s dabbled in successfully during his WWE run.

WWE superstars react to the news

The wrestling world responded emotionally to R-Truth’s exit, with current and former colleagues expressing admiration and heartbreak.

WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley commented on his post: “In all seriousness, this is literally so heartbreaking… Thank you Truth.”
