Washington, D.C. — A new poll suggests that a majority of Americans suspect President Donald Trump is not being truthful about his health, amid rising concerns over the age and medical fitness of the nation’s top leaders. The findings come just days after current President Joe Biden, 81, was diagnosed with prostate cancer, reigniting a national debate about the physical and cognitive readiness of aging politicians.
According to a YouGov/Economist poll conducted between May 23 and May 26, 45 percent of Americans believe that the 78-year-old Trump is either “not at all” or “not very” transparent about his health status. The poll, which surveyed 1,660 participants and carries a margin of error of ±3.2 percent, reveals a sharp divide in public opinion.
Public sentiment appears to favor full disclosure from presidential candidates when it comes to health. Sixty-two percent of respondents said Trump should release his medical records, arguing that any conditions potentially impacting his capacity to serve must be made public. In contrast, 28 percent defended his right to keep those records private, citing personal confidentiality.

Concerns over Trump’s cognitive health are not new. The poll coincides with renewed speculation about the president’s risk of dementia—a condition known to run in the Trump family. Although a recent statement from Trump’s physician in April described him as being in “excellent cognitive and physical health,” doubts remain.
This skepticism echoes the uproar surrounding President Biden’s debate performance earlier this year, which raised red flags about his own mental acuity. A subsequent medical evaluation declared Biden “fit to serve,” though the diagnosis did little to calm public anxieties.
