Employee dismissed after protesting Microsoft’s military ties

Microsoft has terminated software engineer Joe Lopez following his vocal protest during CEO Satya Nadella’s keynote address. Lopez interrupted the speech to condemn Microsoft’s provision of AI and cloud technology to the Israeli military, specifically referencing its potential use in Gaza.

The incident occurred minutes into Satya Nadella’s presentation at a Seattle conference center, where Lopez shouted, “Free Palestine!” before making direct accusations about Microsoft’s Azure platform.

“Satya, how about you show how Microsoft is killing Palestinians? How about you show how Israeli war crimes are powered by Azure?” Lopez declared before security escorted him out.
