Former Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón had previously supported their resentencing bid, enabling Tuesday’s hearing to proceed.

What lies ahead: Parole board to decide

The brothers’ fate now rests with the California parole board, which has already been evaluating them following a request from Governor Gavin Newsom. A risk assessment has been completed as part of their separate request for clemency, with prosecutors indicating it showed a “moderate risk of violence,” though the full report remains unreleased.
