A four-year-old boy in Wisconsin dialed 911 with an urgent complaint: his mother was “being bad” and needed to be put in jail. The young caller from the Village of Mount Pleasant reached out to authorities on March 4, according to a statement from the local police department on Facebook.

“On 3/4/25, Officer Gardinier and Officer Ostergaard were dispatched for a 911 hang-up,” the department wrote. “A little boy called 911 saying his mom was being bad and needed to go to jail.”

The ‘crime’? Eating his ice cream

When officers arrived at the family’s home, the child stood by his complaint, explaining that his mother had eaten his ice cream—a violation, in his view, serious enough to warrant her arrest. In an audio recording obtained by WCAX, the boy is heard speaking with a dispatcher, urgently saying, “My mom is being bad. Come and get my mommy, come get my mommy.” As the child protested in the background, his mother took the phone and clarified the situation. “I ate his ice cream, so that’s probably why he’s calling 911,” she explained.

Officers conduct welfare check and return with a sweet surprise

Concerned that the call could have masked a more serious situation, officers conducted a routine welfare check at the home. Despite his frustration over the missing dessert, the boy ultimately decided not to press charges against his mother. According to police, he admitted that while he was still upset, he didn’t actually want his mom to go to jail—he just really wanted his ice cream back.
