A Colombian courtroom was left in shock and laughter during the trial of former President Álvaro Uribe when a prosecutor accidentally played an explicit video unrelated to the case.

The mishap occurred when Prosecutor Marlene Orjuela attempted to present evidence but instead displayed a bizarre sequence of videos, starting with a dancing dwarf holding a liquor can, followed by an AI-generated clip of a naked woman.

“My apologies, your honour”

Realizing the mistake, Orjuela immediately paused the video and apologized, explaining that she had inadvertently chosen the wrong file instead of playing the intended audio recordings related to the case. “Your honor, my apologies. We wanted to show everything that [Diego Cadena] had sent, but we didn’t foresee that this would happen,” Orjuela said.

Her colleague, Luz Mireya Lopez, attempted to clarify the situation, stating, “We have 57 files consisting of videos and audio recordings.” Despite her efforts to regain control, laughter erupted across the courtroom, with attorneys struggling to contain their amusement.

Uribe remains unfazed as trial continues

Throughout the chaotic scene, Álvaro Uribe, 71, remained expressionless, unfazed by the unexpected courtroom spectacle. Uribe, who served as Colombia’s president from 2002 to 2010, is facing serious charges of witness tampering and bribery. He is accused of “offering cash or other benefits” to witnesses in an alleged attempt to discredit a political opponent investigating his family’s alleged ties to right-wing paramilitary groups.

If convicted, Uribe could face up to 12 years in prison for bribery, with an additional eight years for procedural fraud. However, the former president has denied all allegations, calling the case “political vengeance” orchestrated by Colombia’s chief prosecutor’s office.

Next steps in the legal battle

Despite the embarrassing blunder, the trial continues, with the next hearing scheduled for Tuesday. Uribe remains a divisive but powerful div in Colombian politics, known for his hardline stance against left-wing FARC combatants. The trial is being closely watched, as its outcome could have significant implications for the country’s political landscape.
