Global Media Lauds Indian PM’s Strategic Approach Amid Trade Tensions

In what international observers are calling a diplomatic triumph, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent engagement with U.S. President Donald Trump has drawn widespread acclaim from American media, particularly for his deft handling of potentially contentious trade discussions.

Strategic timing and skillful navigation

The high-stakes meeting, which coincided with Trump’s announcement of sweeping reciprocal tariffs on U.S. allies and competitors, demonstrated Modi’s diplomatic acumen in transforming potential conflict into opportunity. Despite Trump’s previous characterization of India as a “tariff king” and “massive abuser of tariffs,” the meeting yielded unexpected positive outcomes.

CNN’s analysis

Will Ripley, CNN’s senior journalist, offered particular praise for Modi’s approach: “I think we have now seen, first with Japanese prime minister Ishiba’s very positive meeting with Trump, and now what apparently is a very positive meeting with Trump and prime minister Narendra Modi—this is a masterclass for other leaders around the world to know how to walk into a negotiation with President Trump.”
