Death under investigation as cause remains unknown

Kansas City sports anchor Adan Manzano, 27, died while covering the Super Bowl in New Orleans, with the cause of death yet to be determined.

A rising star in sports journalism

Manzano, a reporter for Telemundo KC and Tico Sports, was found in a hotel in Kenner, Louisiana, just outside of New Orleans, according to NOLA.com. The Jefferson Parish coroner’s office confirmed that an autopsy had been conducted, but the cause of death is still pending further test results.

Telemundo Kansas City released an official statement mourning his loss. “As KGKC’s sports anchor & reporter, Adan was an exceptional professional and a rising star whose dedication and talent reflected excellence in his work. We will deeply miss Adan, his passion for sports, and the contributions he made to the local community,” the network shared.

Covering the Super Bowl for the third consecutive year, Manzano had previously spoken about the growing popularity of the Kansas City Chiefs in Mexico City. “Bringing that to the Spanish community because the Hispanics and Latinos—they’ve supported soccer culturally and historically, but there’s always a space where football can be the favorite sport. That’s why I think it’s important,” he told KSNT-TV last year.

His final social media post featured a Super Bowl 2025 sign, expressing gratitude for covering his third consecutive Super Bowl, as the Chiefs aimed for their third championship.

A tragic history of loss

Manzano’s wife, Ashleigh LeeAnn Boyd, was killed in a car accident on April 11, 2024, according to CBS affiliate WIBW.

Her obituary described her as “the kindest, most caring, beautiful person. Her sparkling personality was contagious and would light up any room she walked into. She was a ray of sunshine and always had a smile on her face.”

The couple leaves behind their young daughter, Eleanor.
