In a recent press briefing, President Donald Trump addressed rumours regarding Elon Musk’s workspace within the White House, firmly stating that the Tesla CEO does not have an office in the Oval Office. Musk, who heads the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump’s second administration, had been rumoured to be eyeing a prestigious office in the West Wing.

When questioned about Musk’s presence in the West Wing, Trump responded categorically, “No, no, not—it’s not Elon’s office.” He clarified that a separate office has been designated for Musk and his team, emphasizing its purpose: “We have an office that’s set up for purposes of—when I do an executive order, that the order is carried out, not that it sits around for three months.”

A dedicated team for efficiency

Trump elaborated on the new office’s function, stating that it will house approximately 20 to 25 personnel dedicated to ensuring swift execution of executive orders. “And there’s about 20 or 25 people that will be working out of that office, and it’s really a ‘go get ’em’ office to make sure it gets done. That’s what that is,” he explained.

Musk’s senior leadership team will operate from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, located within the White House grounds but a short distance from the main complex.

The formation of DOGE: Aims and ambitions

Trump announced the establishment of DOGE in November as part of his broader agenda to “dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies – essential to the ‘Save America’ Movement.” Both Trump and Musk have claimed that their efforts could potentially save up to $2 trillion; however, experts caution that such savings would likely require significant cuts to vital social services.

In a recent development, the White House also announced the renaming of the United States Digital Service to the United States DOGE Service (USDS), further solidifying DOGE’s role within the Executive Office of the President.

A complex relationship with political implications

Musk’s involvement with Trump’s administration raises questions about potential conflicts of interest and the implications for his business ventures. Critics speculate whether Musk’s support for Trump is motivated by political ambition or a desire for favorable policies for his companies.

As Musk continues to navigate this new political landscape, his influence is expected to grow—especially following his substantial financial contributions to Trump’s campaign. The relationship between these two powerful divs will likely shape the future of American politics and governance as they pursue their ambitious goals.
