In a dramatic turn of events early Sunday morning, a yacht reportedly rented by renowned hip-hop producer Metro Boomin erupted in flames while docked outside the popular strip club, Booby Trap On The River, in Miami. The fire ignited shortly after the 95-foot vessel arrived at approximately 3 a.m., according to local reports.

Evacuation efforts

As the fire alarm sounded, employees of the strip club quickly mobilized to assist in evacuating around ten individuals aboard the yacht, including Metro Boomin and five crew members. Michael Marhefka, the director of security at Booby Trap, recounted the tense moments: “The boat pulled up and they were on the boat maybe 30 minutes at the dock and we noticed what sounded like fire alarms going off. When we looked at the boat we did see some smoke inside the boat. We made the determination to evacuate the boat immediately.” Fortunately, all individuals were safely removed before the flames intensified.

Fire response

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded promptly to the escalating situation around 4 a.m., deploying over 30 units to combat the blaze. Firefighters faced significant challenges due to the yacht’s size and fuel load, which complicated their efforts to extinguish the fire. Witnesses described a scene of chaos as onlookers gathered, captivated by the spectacle. One witness remarked that the fire was “unexpected” and unlike anything she had ever seen.

Aftermath and investigation

The yacht ultimately sank into the Miami River as firefighters battled the flames for several hours. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this incident. In an effort to mitigate environmental impact, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue utilized specialized oil spill response equipment after extinguishing the fire. MDFR spokesperson Nicholas DiGiacomo explained, “This strong mesh-like sleeve encases a highly absorbent material that soaks up oil and surface sheen.”

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire. Despite his high-profile status and collaborations with artists like The Weeknd and Travis Scott, Metro Boomin has yet to issue a public statement regarding this incident.

Social media reactions

The incident quickly gained traction on social media, with users expressing shock and concern. Comments ranged from disbelief about a yacht catching fire to speculation about potential mechanical failures or foul play. One user noted, “A boat just don’t catch on fire. It was either intentional or there was something faulty within the mechanical system that sparked the fire.”

As investigations continue, fans and followers remain eager for updates on both the cause of the blaze and any potential implications for Metro Boomin’s ongoing projects.
