In a historic turn of events, President-elect Donald Trump is poised to return to the White House on January 20, 2025, marking a significant moment as the first convicted felon to assume the presidency. Trump’s inauguration will take place amidst a series of celebratory events, including a swearing-in ceremony, musical performances, and formal balls.

A grand inauguration day

The inauguration ceremony will officially commence at noon EST (17:00 GMT) on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. During this pivotal moment, Trump and his vice president, J.D. Vance, will take their oaths of office. As Trump prepares to deliver his inaugural address, he will affirm his commitment to the nation with the words: “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

The day’s events will kick off with a morning service at St. John’s Episcopal Church followed by tea at the White House. Musical performances are set to begin at 9:30 AM EST on the West Lawn of the Capitol, leading up to the swearing-in ceremony.

Following the oath-taking, Trump will articulate his vision for his upcoming term before signing key documents in the President’s Room. The day will also feature a Congressional luncheon and a parade along Pennsylvania Avenue, culminating in three inaugural balls: the Commander-in-Chief Ball, Liberty Inaugural Ball, and Starlight Ball.

Enhanced security measures for Trump

Given the high-profile nature of this inauguration, security has been significantly heightened. Approximately 25,000 law enforcement and military personnel will be deployed to ensure safety during the event. Special agent Matt McCool from the U.S. Secret Service confirmed that tactical teams and drones would monitor proceedings from above. A record 30 miles of anti-scale fencing is being erected around key areas, including the White House and Capitol.

Star-studded performances and notable attendees

The inauguration festivities promise an impressive lineup of performers, including Carrie Underwood and Village People—whose hit “Y.M.C.A.” is reportedly a favorite of Trump’s. Country music icons such as Lee Greenwood and Jason Aldean are also expected to grace the stage alongside opera singer Christopher Macchio and rapper Snoop Dogg.

High-profile attendees are anticipated at this momentous occasion. Business magnates like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg are expected to be present. Notably, Argentine President Javier Milei and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have confirmed their attendance—an unusual occurrence since no world leaders have attended a U.S. presidential inauguration since 1874.

Outgoing President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will also attend, marking a stark contrast to the absence of Trump during Biden’s inauguration in 2021. Former presidents Barack Obama and George Bush are slated to join as well; however, Michelle Obama has opted out of attending.

Public participation and viewing options

Tickets for the inauguration ceremony of Trump are available through congressional representatives but are highly sought after. For those unable to attend in person, major news networks will provide live coverage online.

As January 20 approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a historic inauguration steeped in both celebration and unprecedented circumstances surrounding Trump’s return to power.
