Background of the relationship

Prosecutors say Caron first met the victim, born in 2005, as his fifth-grade teacher. The relationship between Caron and the family grew close enough that the parents allowed their children, including the victim, to stay at her home occasionally. This arrangement eventually became permanent in 2016.

The victim’s sister provided crucial testimony, telling investigators she remembered instances where her brother, initially sleeping in the same room as her, would be found in Caron’s bed by morning. She alleged this behavior began when her brother was just 11 years old.

In 2019, Caron gave birth to a child. At the time, investigators say, she was 28 years old, while the alleged victim was only 13. The victim, now between 19 and 20 years old, has confirmed to investigators both the sexual relationship and his paternity of the child.
