The event occurred on January 7, 2025, aboard JetBlue Flight 161, scheduled to depart for San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The emergency exit over the wing was opened at approximately 7:25 p.m., as the Airbus aircraft prepared for departure. Despite the alarming situation, the passenger responsible for the incident remained onboard.

Detained without injury

Massachusetts State Police confirmed the passenger was detained at Terminal C after reports of a disturbance. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew. Authorities have not disclosed the motive for the incident.

In a statement to NBC News, a JetBlue spokesperson confirmed that the emergency exit was opened “for unknown reasons” and reiterated that the airline’s priority was ensuring the safety and security of its passengers.
