In a heart-wrenching incident on Thursday night, a small plane crashed along Interstate 684 in Harrison, New York, resulting in one fatality and causing significant disruption to local traffic and emergency services also initiated an investigation.
According to New York State Police, the plane crash occurred around 7 p.m. near Exit 2, close to Westchester County Airport. The single-engine TECNAM P2008 aircraft, which departed from Linden Airport in New Jersey at 6:09 p.m., was en route to Westchester County Airport when disaster struck.
Flight tracking data reveals the aircraft reached a peak altitude of 3,150 feet before experiencing critical engine issues. New York Governor Kathy Hochul quickly addressed the incident on social media, stating, “I have been briefed on this incident. The highway has been closed in both directions as the @nyspolice conducts their investigation.”
Of particular concern is the aviation gas spill resulting from the plane crash. Governor Hochul noted that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) is “working rapidly to clean” the hazardous spill.
