Targeted Killing Raises Questions About Sophisticated Assassination Technique

In a shocking incident that has gripped the nation, UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson was brutally murdered in a meticulously planned assassination near Manhattan’s Hamilton Hotel, with law enforcement and forensic experts now zeroing in on the weapon used in the brazen daylight attack.

The Weapon: A spy’s arsenal

Preliminary investigations suggest the assassination may have involved a Welrod or B&T VP9 pistol—weapons with a notorious reputation for precision and stealth. Fox News reporter Bill Melugin quoted a law enforcement source who was confident about the weapon’s identity.

“I’d bet my pension that this is the weapon that was used on the United CEO,” the source stated. “It’s very very quiet and requires manual cycling after each round fired. Top choice by pros for up-close, quiet work.”

Sophisticated assassination tactics

The New York Police Department confirmed the killing was a targeted attack, with Thompson shot multiple times from behind, including in the back and calf. Critically, the gunman demonstrated professional-level skills, even clearing a jam during the assault.

Paulette Thomson, the victim’s wife, revealed that Brian Thompson had been receiving threats in the weeks leading up to his murder. Despite these warnings, the 50-year-old businessman had chosen to travel to New York for an investor’s meeting.

Conflicting expert opinions

While initial reports pointed to the Welrod—a classic spy weapon first used in World War II—some gun enthusiasts challenged this narrative.

“A few commenters have posited that this may be a Welrod or B&T VP9/Station 6 pistol. It is not,” wrote gun expert Louis vil LeGun, suggesting the weapon’s characteristics differed from initial reports.

Law enforcement is meticulously collecting evidence, with shell casings and bullets playing a crucial role in unraveling the mystery behind Thompson’s assassination.

Key Investigative Points:

• Targeted attack confirmed by NYPD
• Multiple shots fired from behind
• Weapon potentially a specialized, suppressed pistol
• Victim had received prior threats

The NYPD continues its investigation, working to piece together the circumstances surrounding this high-profile assassination. The sophisticated nature of the attack suggests a level of premeditation that goes beyond a random act of violence.
