Venture capitalist claims president’s son owes over $300,000 in rental fees

Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, is facing new controversy after a California venture capitalist accused him of owing more than $300,000 in unpaid rent from 2019-2020. This comes just days after Hunter received a presidential pardon for federal crimes.

Explosive social media accusation

Shaun Maguire, a partner at Sequoia Capital, made the allegations publicly on X (formerly Twitter), questioning whether the recent presidential pardon covers the debt.

So what happens to the $300k+ in back pay rent that Hunter Biden owes my family from 2019-2020? Is that pardoned now? Thanks Joe (This is a true story), Maguire wrote, sparking widespread online attention.

Detailed allegations of rental misconduct

In a follow-up update, Maguire added, “Hunter was our tenant in Venice, CA. Didn’t pay rent for over a year. Tried to pay w/ art made from his own feces. Absolute s-bag.” The Sequoia exec also pointed out that the rent was $25,000 a month for the house Joe Biden’s son was allegedly living in California.

Legal implications

Experts note that the presidential pardon, which applies to federal crimes committed in 2024, does not extend to civil matters like unpaid rent. Fox News highlighted that rental disputes are typically handled as civil issues beyond the reach of a pardon.

Historical context of rental disputes

This is not the first such allegation against Hunter Biden. Reports suggest he faced a similar rental dispute with Sweetgreen CEO Jonathan Newman, involving around $80,000 in back rent for another Venice property.

Public and celebrity reactions

Entrepreneur Elon Musk commented on the allegations, sharing the story with a sardonic remark: “Truth is stranger (and funnier) than fiction.”

Maguire himself expressed concerns about pursuing legal action, stating that the Biden family is “kind of a scary family to go after.”

Broader implications

The allegations come at a politically sensitive time, following President Biden’s controversial decision to pardon his son, which has intensified scrutiny of the Biden family’s actions.

As the story unfolds, it continues to draw significant public and media attention, adding to the challenges surrounding Hunter Biden’s public image.
