Internet reacts to the bizarre culinary experiment inspired by Dungeons & Dragons.

Pizza Hut in China has pushed the boundaries of culinary innovation with the launch of its newest limited-edition offering: a pizza topped with a whole deep-fried bullfrog. The unusual menu item, named “Goblin Pizza,” was reportedly created in collaboration with Dungeons & Dragons, inspired by one of the game’s fantastical characters.

The pizza features a thick crust with a red sauce base, a bed of parsley, and the pièce de résistance—a whole fried bullfrog as the centerpiece. Adding to its theatrical presentation, the “eyes” of the frog are crafted from halved hard-boiled eggs topped with black olive slices.

Global reactions to the ‘Goblin Pizza‘

The dish has sparked intense debate online. Food trend expert David Henke posted an image of the pizza advertisement on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “In proof that other countries/cultures prefer different types of proteins, Pizza Hut is offering a pizza topped with a frog for a limited time in China – and the frog is trending.”

A Reddit user later shared a real-life photo of the pizza, further fueling curiosity and criticism. Social media users have expressed a mix of amusement, horror, and intrigue.

Comments ranged from blunt disapproval to lighthearted humor:

• “This pizza is a felony,” one user quipped.
• Another remarked, “Why ruin a pizza like that?”
• A playful commenter joked, “You can ribbet this right into the garbage.”

Others offered suggestions for improvement, with one user writing:
“Fried frog legs are so good—maybe shred the frog leg meat next time and add it to the pizza. That would be pretty good.”

Availability shrouded in mystery

While the pizza has garnered attention worldwide, its availability remains uncertain. The item has not been listed on Pizza Hut’s official website, leaving food enthusiasts to rely on local outlets and news reports. Korean news outlet Maeil Business Newspaper confirmed its existence but did not detail whether it would expand beyond the initial launch.

The “Goblin Pizza” highlights how food trends can vary dramatically across cultures. Bullfrog is a common delicacy in certain Chinese cuisines, appreciated for its tender meat and high protein content. However, its placement on a pizza—a universally beloved comfort food—has many questioning whether Pizza Hut’s bold experiment was a miscalculation or an imaginative twist.

Whatever the verdict, the “Goblin Pizza” has achieved its goal: to spark conversation, intrigue, and perhaps a bit of culinary courage.
