In a stunning development that reads like a crime thriller, a Wisconsin man who orchestrated his disappearance has surfaced in a video message to police, confirming he’s alive months after an extensive search for his body in a local lake.

Ryan Borgwardt, 45, whose apparent drowning triggered a 54-day search operation, appeared in a brief selfie-style video sent to investigators. “Good evening, it’s Ryan Borgwardt,” he states in the 24-second clip, filmed against white apartment walls. “Today is 11 November.
