In a remarkable discovery that has captivated fans of 1980s culture, two sisters stumbled upon a perfectly preserved teenage bedroom from the iconic decade. Decorated with Miami Vice and Bon Jovi posters, the room offered a vivid snapshot of the era’s memorabilia, untouched for decades. Nicole Chalawich, 52, and her sister Jessica, 49, made the nostalgic find after Jessica acquired their old family home. The sisters, who only learned of each other’s existence a year ago through a DNA test, marvelled at the discovery. “It was so brilliant to unlock this total time capsule from the ’80s,” said Nicole, who works as a dental assistant in Waterford, Michigan.

A bedroom preserved by sentiment

The room had remained untouched since 1989, the year Jessica moved out at age 15. Their grandmother, who lived in the home afterwards, chose to preserve the space for sentimental reasons. “Jessica would have moved out of this room when she was 15, meaning it was 1989 when it was last lived in,” Nicole explained. “Her grandma wanted to keep the room the same for her memories of living with Jessica.” As their grandmother aged, the upstairs room became seldom visited, effectively freezing it in time.

Jessica, returning to the house for the first time in years, immediately thought to share the nostalgic treasure with Nicole. “I knew it was left the same all these years,” Jessica remarked. “As soon as I got the keys and was looking through the house, I thought Nicole would enjoy the room, so I invited her over.” The walls of the room, adorned with posters of Jon Bon Jovi, Prince, Johnny Depp in his 21 Jump Street days, and heavier rock bands like Anthrax, reflected Jessica’s teenage tastes.
