In an unimaginably disturbing case of child abuse and neglect, a Texas woman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after forcing her children to live in an apartment with the rotting body of their deceased 8-year-old brother for more than a year.

Horrific circumstances

According to court documents, 38-year-old Gloria Williams kept the body of her son, Kendrick Lee, in the family’s soiled, roach-infested apartment for months after he was beaten to death by her boyfriend, Brian Coulter.

Williams’ three other children, aged 7, 10, and 15 at the time, were left to fend for themselves as the body slowly decomposed.

Legal proceedings

In October 2022, Williams pleaded guilty to two counts of injury to a child. During the nearly two-day sentencing hearing, her defense attorneys attempted to shift blame to her boyfriend Coulter, who was sentenced to life in prison without parole for Kendrick’s murder. However, the judge ultimately sentenced Williams to 50 years behind bars.

Following her arrest, Williams relinquished her parental rights. The two younger siblings have since been adopted, while the eldest is currently in a foster care placement.
