Chinese mother sparks outrage after sharing video of son urinating on family meal

A Chinese mother sparked widespread outrage after posting a video on social media showing her young son urinating at a family meal. According to the South China Morning Post, the incident unfolded when the boy, held by his grandmother next to the dining table, unexpectedly urinated onto the breakfast spread, which included steamed buns, eggs, and vegetables. Surprisingly, the mother confirmed that the family continued eating the meal, a response that shocked many netizens.
While the video’s content disturbed many, it also opened a window into lesser-known aspects of traditional Chinese culture. In some regions, especially in southern China, young boys’ urine has historically been attributed with health and spiritual benefits, believed to enhance yang energy, reduce fever, and ward off evil spirits. The practice includes a well-known recipe called “urine eggs,” which involves cooking eggs in the urine of young boys under age 10, a delicacy purported to have unique health benefits.
The incident has reignited conversations about traditional beliefs in modern society and the limits of online content sharing, highlighting how cultural practices can become controversial when shared on global platforms.
