An ordinary birthday celebration turned extraordinary for a Salyersville, Kentucky resident when a thoughtful gift from her aunt resulted in an unexpected lottery windfall of $36,000.
Brianna Vanhoose, who admits she rarely plays the lottery, received a $50 Millionaire Club scratch-off ticket as a birthday present from her aunt. The gift would prove to be far more valuable than either of them initially imagined.
The story took an interesting twist when Vanhoose’s aunt, who had purchased a ticket for herself as well, won $75 from her own scratch-off. This initial win prompted Vanhoose to check her ticket, despite her skepticism.

“I was like, ‘OK, well I’m not going to win,'” Vanhoose told Kentucky Lottery officials. However, fate had other plans. “I scratched it, and I saw it and I just took off running.”
The revelation of the $36,000 prize left Vanhoose so overwhelmed that she struggled to communicate the news to her family. Her aunt, recounting the moment, said simply, “She just kept screaming.”
The sudden windfall has left Vanhoose in a state of pleasant shock. While she hasn’t made any concrete plans for her winnings, she’s still trying to process her good fortune.
“I still don’t know what to think,” she confessed to lottery officials. “It still doesn’t seem real.”
This heartwarming story adds to Kentucky’s growing list of lottery success stories, proving that sometimes the best birthday presents come with unexpected zeros at the end.
