Brittany Boltinhouse, who was crowned Miss North Carolina USA 2026 in June, has been stripped of her title less than two months into her reign. Pageant organizers announced the decision after what they described as a review of “recently surfaced information”, though they have not publicly disclosed the specific reason behind her removal.

The announcement has drawn attention across the pageant community, particularly after Miss USA President and CEO Thom Brodeur suggested the decision stemmed from a pattern of conduct rather than a single incident. The organisation has also reaffirmed its commitment to policies prohibiting discriminatory behavior, prompting widespread speculation online about what led to the unprecedented move.

• Brittany Boltinhouse has been removed as Miss North Carolina USA 2026 less than two months after winning the title.
• Organizers cited a review of “recently surfaced information” but did not reveal specific details.
• Miss USA leadership said the decision involved conduct over an extended period rather than a single event.
• The organization reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on racism, homophobia, transphobia, and other discriminatory behaviour.
• First runner-up Myla Hadley has been named the new Miss North Carolina USA 2026.

Why was Brittany Boltinhouse stripped of her Miss North Carolina USA title?

Pageant organizer A Blaize Productions, which operates the Miss North Carolina USA competition under licence from the Miss USA Organisation, announced on August 5 that Boltinhouse’s reign had officially ended.

In a statement, the organisation said the decision followed a

• A “thorough review of recently surfaced information”.
• Multiple conversations with those involved.
• Consultation with the Miss USA organisation.

The organisation emphasised that the move “was not made lightly” and reflected its responsibility to ensure titleholders uphold the values expected of official representatives.

However, organisers did not disclose the nature of the information that prompted the decision.

What did the Miss USA organisation say?

Miss USA President and CEO Thom Brodeur, who took over the organisation in September 2025 following changes in ownership and leadership, defended the decision.

According to Brodeur, the issue extended beyond a single isolated incident.

“What was brought to us was not a single moment. It reflected conduct over an extended period of time. That is why this outcome was reached, and I stand behind it without qualification.”

Without directly referencing the allegations, Brodeur also reaffirmed the organisation’s standards regarding respectful conduct.

He stated that the Miss USA Organisation does not tolerate the following:

• Racism.
• Homophobia.
• Transphobia.
• Language that strips individuals of their dignity.

Importantly, Brodeur did not confirm that any specific allegation involving Boltinhouse fell into these categories. His comments outlined the organisation’s broader standards rather than identifying the precise reason for her removal.

Did organisers reveal the specific allegations?

No.

As of publication, neither A Blaize Productions nor the Miss USA Organization has publicly identified the conduct or information that led to Boltinhouse’s removal.

Because the organisations have withheld those details, speculation circulating on social media remains unverified.

Until an official explanation is released, the exact basis for the decision remains unknown.

What has Brittany Boltinhouse said?

Shortly before organisers announced her removal, Boltinhouse shared a reflective message on social media about following one’s own path.

She wrote that people should be selective about whose advice they accept, arguing that opinions from those who have not shared similar experiences should not outweigh personal conviction.

Following the pageant’s announcement, Brodeur indicated that Boltinhouse had accepted responsibility in a private statement.

According to him:

• She demonstrated “ownership, accountability and apology”.
• Her response did not change the organisation’s decision.
• He believes she should address the matter publicly in her own words.

At the time of publication, Boltinhouse had not released a detailed public explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding her removal.

Who is Brittany Boltinhouse?

Before winning the statewide title, Boltinhouse held the Miss Wilmington USA crown.

According to her official pageant biography, she is:

• A 27-year-old entrepreneur.
• The owner of two flooring and artificial turf businesses.
• The first married woman to win the Miss North Carolina USA title.
• The first woman of Honduran and Mexican heritage to earn the crown.

Her pageant platform focused on entrepreneurship and encouraging others to pursue ambitious career goals.

Who is the new Miss North Carolina USA?

Following Boltinhouse’s removal, Myla Hadley, the competition’s first runner-up, was elevated to Miss North Carolina USA 2026.

She will now represent North Carolina at the Miss USA 2026 competition later this month.

In an Instagram post, Hadley thanked supporters and acknowledged the significance of her new role.

She said she understood the prestige associated with the title and expressed confidence that she and her team were prepared for the national competition.

Why is this decision significant?

Title removals in major beauty pageants are relatively uncommon, particularly so soon after a contestant is crowned.

The case also comes during a period of broader transformation for the Miss USA organisation following leadership changes in 2025. The organization has repeatedly emphasised strengthening accountability, transparency, and standards for titleholders.

Because officials have not disclosed the underlying facts, the announcement has generated significant public interest while also highlighting the importance of distinguishing verified information from online speculation.

What happens next?

Attention will likely shift to whether Boltinhouse chooses to publicly explain the circumstances surrounding her removal.

Meanwhile

• Myla Hadley will officially represent North Carolina at Miss USA 2026.
• The Miss USA Organization has indicated the matter is considered closed from its perspective.
• No additional details regarding the investigation or review have been released.

Unless organisers provide further clarification or Boltinhouse speaks publicly, the specific reasons behind the title revocation are likely to remain undisclosed.
