Saudi Arabia has warned of an emerging security threat after receiving intelligence that Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq and Yemen’s Houthi movement may be preparing coordinated attacks against the Kingdom. The reported warning comes as tensions across the Middle East continue to rise, fueling concerns that regional proxy conflicts could expand into a broader confrontation.

According to a Saudi official cited by CNN, Riyadh has received “multiple intelligence reports” from domestic and regional agencies indicating that Iraqi militias are coordinating with the Houthis to launch attacks “in the very near future.” While the claims have not been independently verified, the reports have prompted heightened security concerns over Saudi Arabia’s critical infrastructure and border defenses.

• Saudi Arabia says intelligence points to a possible coordinated attack by Iraqi militias and Yemen’s Houthis.
• Officials allege Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is overseeing the operation.
• Potential targets include oil facilities, airports, ports, and other strategic infrastructure.
• The reported plan would involve attacks from Saudi Arabia’s northern and southern borders.
• Neither Iran nor the accused Iraqi militia groups have publicly responded to the allegations.

What is Saudi Arabia claiming?

Saudi officials say intelligence gathered from multiple domestic and regional sources suggests Iran-backed Iraqi militias and Yemen’s Houthi movement are preparing a synchronized military operation against the Kingdom.

According to the official who spoke to CNN, Saudi Arabia remains committed to reducing regional tensions but is prepared to respond if attacked.

“Saudi Arabia will take all necessary measures to deal with any aggression,” the official said.

At the time of publication, the allegations remain unverified by independent observers.

How could a two-front attack unfold?

Saudi intelligence reportedly believes the operation would involve simultaneous attacks from two separate directions.

Northern front

Officials allege Iraqi militia groups would launch attacks from Iraq toward Saudi Arabia’s northern border.

Southern front

At the same time, Houthi forces based in Yemen could target southern Saudi Arabia with drones and missiles.

Security analysts say such a coordinated operation would seek to stretch Saudi Arabia’s air defense systems by forcing them to respond to multiple threats simultaneously.

---

Which targets are reportedly at risk?

According to intelligence assessments cited by Saudi officials, the alleged operation would focus primarily on civilian and economic infrastructure rather than conventional military installations.

Potential targets reportedly include:

• Oil production and energy facilities.
• Commercial ports.
• International airports.
• Transportation infrastructure.
• Other strategic economic assets.

Saudi Arabia is one of the world’s largest oil exporters, making its energy infrastructure particularly significant for both regional and global markets.

Officials also claim drones and missiles intended for the operation have already been positioned, although these assertions have not been independently confirmed.

What role is the IRGC alleged to be playing?

Saudi officials allege the operation is being coordinated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the branch of Iran’s military responsible for many of Tehran’s overseas operations.

Iran has repeatedly denied directing attacks by regional armed groups in previous conflicts, maintaining that organizations such as the Houthis and Iraqi militias make their own operational decisions.

As of publication, Tehran has not publicly responded to these latest allegations.

Which Iraqi militias have been mentioned?

Security assessments referenced in the reporting suggest several Iranian-aligned Iraqi groups are believed to be involved in logistical or operational coordination.

These reportedly include:

• Kata’ib Hezbollah.
• Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba.
• Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada.

According to analysts, these groups may be providing logistical support and staging areas, while Houthi personnel are allegedly sharing expertise in drone operations.

These claims have not been independently verified, and the groups have not publicly commented on the allegations.

Why are concerns growing now?

The intelligence warning follows several recent incidents that have heightened regional tensions.

Among them:

• The Houthis recently claimed responsibility for an attack on a Saudi-linked oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden.
• Saudi Arabia has faced repeated drone and missile threats originating from Yemen in recent years.
• Earlier this month, Houthi forces claimed shelling near Saudi Arabia’s Najran region.
• Saudi Arabia has also coordinated military operations with U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) following previous attacks attributed to Iran-backed groups.

Taken together, these developments have fueled concerns that separate proxy conflicts could become increasingly interconnected.

Why does this matter for regional security?

If the reported plans materialize, Saudi Arabia could face simultaneous threats from both its northern and southern borders—a scenario that would present a more complex challenge than isolated cross-border attacks.

Such an operation could:

• Increase pressure on Saudi air defense systems.
• Threaten global energy supplies if oil infrastructure is disrupted.
• Raise shipping risks in nearby waterways.
• Further complicate diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions across the Middle East.

Energy markets typically react quickly to perceived threats against Gulf oil infrastructure, even when attacks do not ultimately occur.

What happens next?

At present, the reported intelligence warning remains an allegation from Saudi officials, and there has been no independent confirmation that coordinated attacks are imminent.

Investigators and regional governments will likely continue monitoring developments while increasing security around critical infrastructure.

Meanwhile:

• Saudi Arabia says it is prepared to respond to any aggression.
• Iran has not publicly addressed the allegations.
• The Iraqi militia groups named in the reports have not issued official statements.
• The Houthis have not commented on the reported intelligence warning.

Whether the reported threat develops into actual military action will likely shape the next phase of an already volatile regional security environment.
