Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday party was meant to be a glamorous, star-studded affair. But what should have been a glittering celebration soon became a social media puzzle, after photos featuring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle mysteriously vanished from posts by Kim Kardashian and Jenner themselves. The deletion sparked a swirl of speculation, exposing the tension between Hollywood’s open-book social culture and the Sussexes’ famously guarded privacy.

What happened at Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday party

The James Bond-themed celebration took place at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s Beverly Hills mansion, attracting some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, and Justin Bieber, among them.

Initially, images of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surfaced on Instagram through Jenner and Kardashian’s posts. Within hours, however, those posts were quietly edited, and the royal couple had disappeared without explanation.

The sudden deletion didn’t go unnoticed, with fans and gossip outlets immediately questioning what had gone wrong behind the scenes.

Why were Harry and Meghan’s photos deleted?

According to People magazine, the issue came down to one thing: control. A source revealed that Harry and Meghan were “furious” upon discovering that their photos had gone viral without their approval.

“Harry and Meghan were polite but firm; nothing goes online without their sign-off,” the insider said.

This stance reflects the couple’s ongoing effort to manage their public image since stepping back from royal duties in 2020. They have repeatedly emphasized their right to privacy and control over their likeness, even as they participate in high-profile public events.

Their brand, as the insider put it, “is built on control.” And in a world where Kardashian-Jenner publicity thrives on visibility, that control became a point of friction.

The clash between Hollywood publicity and Sussex privacy

The Kardashian-Jenner family has long mastered the art of image management through exposure, turning personal moments into global content. By contrast, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle operate on a near-opposite philosophy: calculated visibility, where every public image is strategic.

This clash symbolizes two entirely different approaches to fame:

• The Kardashians leverage constant sharing to maintain cultural relevance.
• The Sussexes use selective sharing to protect authenticity and narrative control.

For Jenner and Kardashian, removing the photos was likely an act of courtesy — or crisis management. For Harry and Meghan, it was a necessary assertion of their personal boundaries.

Other celebrities at the event

Despite the Sussexes’ photo controversy, the party was still one of the most talked-about events of the season. Attendees included:

• Oprah Winfrey
• Tyler Perry
• Beyoncé and Jay-Z
• Snoop Dogg
• Mariah Carey
• Ciara
• Justin Bieber

Interestingly, the couple had also appeared earlier that day at the Baby2Baby Gala in West Hollywood, supporting their friend Serena Williams — further signaling their growing integration into the Hollywood social circuit.

How Harry and Meghan manage their privacy in the US

Since relocating to California, Harry and Meghan have adopted a unique media strategy — one that allows them to tell their story while maintaining tight control.

Selective storytelling through curated platforms

They’ve chosen specific media outlets and platforms for their narrative:

• Netflix projects like Harry & Meghan (2022) and With Love, Meghan (2025) give them editorial oversight.
• Meghan’s social media, particularly Instagram, is meticulously managed, with every image and caption serving a purpose.

Manipulating media attention

California-based photographer Mark Karloff previously claimed the pair sometimes stage mock paparazzi encounters to manage optics, a tactic that keeps them visible on their terms while discouraging unauthorized coverage.

Together, these measures show the Sussexes’ intent to preserve agency over their brand, an understandable response after years of intense scrutiny in the UK press.

How the royal family reacted

Not everyone was impressed with Harry and Meghan’s attendance at the lavish event. According to Page Six, royal insiders criticized the appearance as “tacky.”

“It truly shows that Harry is so far removed from the rest of the family,” one palace source said. “These people may be stars in America, but the ostentatiousness is at odds with what Prince William is trying to do with his life and the monarchy.”

For royal observers, this moment reinforced the symbolic divide between the traditional, restrained monarchy and the celebrity-driven culture Harry and Meghan now inhabit.

Why this incident matters

This minor Instagram cleanup encapsulates a larger question: Can traditional notions of privacy survive in a world built on publicity?

Harry and Meghan’s decision to have their images removed highlights how seriously they take control over their image — not out of vanity, but as a strategy of self-preservation. Their brand thrives on curated authenticity, not spontaneous exposure.

For Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian, the incident is a rare reminder that not everyone plays by Hollywood’s publicity rules.

TL;DR

• Photos of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday party were deleted from social media.
• Sources say the couple demanded the removal because the images were posted without their approval.
• The incident underscores the couple’s ongoing effort to maintain strict control over their public image.
• Royal insiders criticized their attendance as “tacky,” reflecting the deep cultural divide between the monarchy and Hollywood celebrity life.
