A Reckless Drive Turns Into a Viral Arrest

A 42-year-old Miami resident, Scott Thomas Deiseroth, is facing multiple charges after being arrested near the Florida Keys for driving under the influence (DUI) and child endangerment. Deiseroth, who allegedly claimed to be an agent with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), was pulled over by deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) in August following reports of reckless driving. Two children, ages 7 and 9, were found inside the vehicle at the time of his arrest.

A video of the confrontation, recently resurfaced online, has gone viral again—amassing millions of views across social media platforms and reigniting public outrage.

“Are You Haitian?” — The Question That Sparked Backlash

During the arrest, Deiseroth appeared agitated and attempted to intimidate the deputies. At one point, he demanded, “Are you Haitian?”—a question that stunned officers and viewers alike.

An officer immediately responded, “It doesn’t matter where he’s from,” asserting that the inquiry had no relevance to the situation.

The exchange, captured on a bodycam and widely shared online, has drawn sharp criticism for its tone and implications, with many calling it “racially charged” and “unprofessional.”

Signs of Intoxication and False Claims of Authority

According to the arrest report, deputies detected a strong odor of alcohol on Deiseroth. He also appeared disoriented, giving officers incorrect information about his location—claiming to be nearly 100 miles away from where he actually was.

When placed in the patrol car, Deiseroth grew combative, shouting,

“I’m a f—— law enforcement, dude!”

Despite claiming to work for the Department of Homeland Security, Deiseroth failed to produce any credentials confirming his employment.

After failing standard field sobriety tests, he was taken into custody. Deputies noted that his erratic behavior posed a serious risk, especially with two minors in the vehicle.

“Don’t Take My Kids, Man!” — A Desperate Plea

In a later interview, Deiseroth reportedly broke down, telling deputies he was “going through a divorce” and begged them not to separate him from his children.

“Don’t do this! Come on, guys. I’m going through a divorce. Don’t take my kids, man!”

The two children were safely released to a family member, and the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) was notified of the incident.

Charges and Ongoing Investigation

Deiseroth was charged with:

• Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
• Two counts of child endangerment

Authorities are still investigating his claims of DHS employment, which—according to local officials—could not be verified at the time of arrest.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has not yet confirmed whether federal authorities are assisting in the investigation.

Bodycam footage of the arrest has reignited debate over false law enforcement impersonations and accountability in DUI cases involving children.
