In the wake of the tragic events at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, viral videos on social media have drawn attention to what some viewers see as uncanny parallels between the real-life incident and a 1998 Nicolas Cage film, Snake Eyes. The film’s plot includes a shocking scene involving the assassination of a character named Charles Kirkland, sparking online discussions about eerie coincidences.

The Alleged Parallels

Fans and social media users have highlighted several points of resemblance between the film and the real-life tragedy:

• Date coincidence: In Snake Eyes, the assassination of Charles Kirkland occurs on September 10—the same date as the Utah incident.
• Character names: The murdered character is named Charles Kirkland, while the victim in Utah was Charlie Kirk, formally Charles James Kirk.
• Method of attack: In both cases, the fatal shot strikes the neck.
• Perpetrator similarities: The character who kills Kirkland in the movie is named Tyler, a heavyweight boxer, paralleling Tyler Robinson, who was arrested in connection with the real-world shooting.
• Location parallels: Some users claim the film scene was shot at the Trump Taj Mahal Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, though this remains unverified.

These coincidences have fueled a wave of social media speculation, ranging from theories of predictive scripting to more extreme ideas like time travel or simulated realities.

Public Reaction and Online Speculation

Social media responses have been intense and varied. One user wrote, “I’m absolutely stunned like a deer in headlights. How is this possible!? Are movies able to program reality itself like a mirror?” Others drew parallels to The Simpsons, a show long noted for its seeming ability to “predict” real-world events.

Some users have even extended the discussion to unrelated elements of the film, such as a hurricane named JEZEBEL striking Atlantic City. Conspiracy theories have surfaced linking the story to online entities, including claims about the Jezebel website and alleged curses, though no evidence supports these assertions.

It is important to note that these claims are unverified. Experts caution that coincidences can appear striking, particularly when individuals focus selectively on certain details while ignoring differences.

The Importance of Context

While the parallels may appear remarkable, film plots frequently involve political intrigue, violent incidents, and fictional characters with common names. Patterns that seem predictive are often the result of human pattern recognition—a cognitive bias where people perceive meaningful connections in random events.

Journalists and social analysts urge caution when interpreting such coincidences. Viral posts and internet theories can spread rapidly, sometimes blurring the line between fact and speculation.

TL;DR

Social media has drawn attention to perceived similarities between the 1998 Nicolas Cage film Snake Eyes and the 2025 shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Highlights include matching dates, character names, methods of attack, and alleged filming locations. While the parallels are striking, no evidence supports claims of intentional prediction, and experts advise viewing these coincidences critically.
