What happened to Tom Holland on set?

Tom Holland, the 29-year-old star of Marvel’s Spider-Man films, was rushed to the hospital after sustaining a head injury while filming a stunt for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The incident occurred at Leavesden Studios in Watford, England, on Friday morning.

According to the East of England Ambulance Service, medics were called at 10:30 a.m. to treat a patient who had “sustained an injury.” Tom Holland was transported to hospital for further care, where he was treated for concussion after reportedly cracking his head in a fall.

How serious is the injury?

• The Sun reported that Holland’s father, Dominic, said the actor would be away from filming “for a while.”
• Variety, however, described the concussion as “mild” and noted that Tom Holland is expected to return to set within a few days after a precautionary rest.

Despite being seen later at a charity dinner in London with his father and fiancée Zendaya, Tom Holland reportedly left early after feeling unwell.

What does this mean for Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are expected to meet today, September 22, to discuss how the injury may affect production. Filming, which began in August in Glasgow, has already produced several leaks and behind-the-scenes images teasing the return of Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds and Zendaya as MJ.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. For now, the studios are weighing whether filming will need to be delayed or rescheduled depending on Holland’s recovery timeline.

A high-stakes production with practical stunts

Unlike some of the more recent Spider-Man films that relied heavily on CGI, set videos from Brand New Day have teased a return to practical web-swinging. Tom Holland, who is known for doing many of his own stunts, has previously spoken about the physical demands of the role.

This incident highlights the risks actors face during physically demanding shoots, recalling other Hollywood injuries such as Henry Cavill’s leg injury while preparing for the Highlander reboot.

What’s next?

For now, production is on hold until Holland’s condition stabilizes. A decision on whether filming will resume this week will likely depend on medical advice and the outcome of Sony and Marvel’s meeting. Fans will be closely watching for updates, especially with the film carrying one of the MCU’s biggest box office expectations.
