The couple did not provide further details but emphasized that the decision was made thoughtfully.

How their romance began

• The pair first crossed paths briefly at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, when both were in long-term relationships.
• They reconnected in 2022, when Bellucci presented Burton with the Lumière Award at the Lumière Festival in Lyon, France.
• Romance rumors quickly followed after the two were seen walking together in Madrid.
• Their relationship became public in October 2023, when they attended the Rome Film Festival side by side.

By 2024, they were a familiar sight on international red carpets, with Burton often accompanying Bellucci to premieres.

Professional collaboration

Their romance overlapped with a professional milestone: Burton cast Bellucci as Delores, a villain in his 2024 film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to his 1988 cult classic.

In a 2023 interview with Elle France, Bellucci spoke warmly about the partnership:

“I’m glad I met the man, first of all. It’s one of those encounters that rarely happens in life. I know the man, I love him and now I’m going to meet the director — another adventure begins.”

Their past relationships

Both Burton and Bellucci brought significant relationship histories into their union.

• Tim Burton was previously in a long-term relationship with actress Helena Bonham Carter from 2001 to 2014. They share two children — Billy (born 2003) and Nell (born 2007) — and collaborated on films such as Sweeney Todd, Corpse Bride, Alice in Wonderland, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
• Monica Bellucci was married to French actor Vincent Cassel from 1999 to 2013. They share two daughters, Deva (born 2004) and Léonie (born 2010).

Both Burton and Bellucci have previously spoken openly about the complexities of long-term partnerships and family life.

Why this breakup matters

Celebrity breakups often make headlines, but the Burton–Bellucci split drew special attention because it combined two worlds, Burton’s gothic cinematic universe and Bellucci’s European screen legacy. Their pairing was described by fans and media as an unexpected yet glamorous union.

The fact that their parting was framed with “respect and deep care” sets their announcement apart from many high-profile Hollywood separations.
