What did Travis Kelce reveal about the wedding?

Less than a month after proposing to Taylor Swift, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is already dropping hints about their big day. On the September 17 episode of his New Heights podcast, Kelce told guest Jimmy Fallon that he and Swift have settled one of the most common debates in wedding planning: whether to hire a DJ or a live band.

“Yeah, I think we’re live music kind of people, you know?” the 35-year-old said.

Kelce added that now that he and Patrick Mahomes have officially opened their Kansas City steakhouse, his focus is shifting. “That’s the next step in it all,” he said of wedding planning. “That one is gonna be easy, I just have to div out how to win a football game first.”

How has Taylor Swift approached the engagement?

Swift, 35, has not publicly spoken about her engagement since confirming the news on Instagram on August 26. However, her past comments reveal how she envisions the process. In a 2012 Cosmopolitan interview, Swift emphasized that she wanted her future husband to be part of the planning, rather than being sidelined by pre-made decisions.

“I want to build a life with someone that’s based on their dreams as well as my dreams,” she said at the time. “I don’t want him to wonder if it even matters if he’s there.”

That collaborative mindset appears to have found a match in Kelce, who’s eager to make music — live music — a centerpiece of their celebration.

A love story years in the making

The couple’s relationship began in July 2023, when Swift’s Eras Tour stopped at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. Kelce, already a fan, famously tried — and failed — to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it. That “fumble,” as he later described it, set the stage for their love story.

• Summer 2023: Kelce invited Swift to one of his games, saying, “I threw it out there, I threw the ball in her court.”
• September 2023: Swift attended a Chiefs game, sitting with Kelce’s mom Donna. Their PDA afterward confirmed romance rumors.
• October 2023: Swift brought her squad — including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Sophie Turner — to a Jets game in New Jersey.
• February 2024: The couple shared a kiss on the field after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win, cementing their status as sports and pop culture’s ultimate power duo.
• June 2024: Kelce joined Swift on stage at her Eras Tour stop in London, making headlines with his surprise performance.
• August 2025: After nearly two years of high-profile appearances, the couple announced their engagement with a cheeky Instagram post referencing Swift’s song “So High School.”

Why live music matters to them

For both Swift and Kelce, music is not just entertainment — it’s central to their story. From the infamous friendship bracelet to surprise tour cameos, live music has been woven into the relationship since day one. Choosing a live band over a DJ fits the narrative they’ve built together: personal, expressive, and unforgettable.

Fans are already speculating which artists might take the stage at the wedding. Could Swift herself perform? Will Kelce call on celebrity friends from both the NFL and the music industry? While those details remain under wraps, the emphasis on live music ensures the night will be as memorable as their romance.

What’s next for the couple?

While Kelce jokes about needing to “win a football game first,” the couple is already deep into balancing two high-profile careers. Swift is preparing to release her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on October 3, while Kelce’s NFL season is in full swing.

Wedding planning will be happening in parallel, but if their history is any indicator, the couple will make it another headline-worthy chapter in their ongoing love story.

TL;DR

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are wasting no time in planning their wedding. On his New Heights podcast, Kelce revealed they’ve decided to feature live music at the event. The couple, engaged since late August, has built their relationship around shared moments tied to music and football, making their upcoming celebration one of the most anticipated celebrity weddings in recent memory.
