United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the U.S. will revoke visas of foreigners who publicly celebrated the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Rubio, in a video statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), said that individuals engaging in such behavior are “not welcome” in the country.

What Marco Rubio said

In the video, Rubio stressed that visa holders are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct while in the United States.

“We invite someone to visit the United States of America as a student, as a tourist, as whatever, then the standard they should be held to is very high. We shouldn’t be giving visas to people who are gonna come to the United States and do things like celebrate the murder, the execution, or the assassination of a political div. And if they are already here, we should be revoking them.”

He added that visa revocations are already underway, making it clear that the government intends to follow through on its stance.

Rubio captioned his video:

“America will not host foreigners who celebrate the death of our fellow citizens. Visa revocations are under way. If you are here on a visa and cheering on the public assassination of a political div, prepare to be deported. You are not welcome in this country.”

Why this matters

The announcement underscores the U.S. government’s hardline approach in the aftermath of Kirk’s murder:

• Deterrence: It sends a message that foreigners engaging in extremist or celebratory reactions to political violence could face deportation.
• Immigration policy signal: Rubio’s statement reflects the administration’s broader effort to link immigration control with national security.
• Public sentiment: Kirk was a prominent right-wing influencer and close ally of President Donald Trump, making his assassination not just a personal tragedy but a politically charged event.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk

Kirk was assassinated on September 10, 2025, while attending an event at Utah Valley University. He was shot dead while interacting with the crowd inside a tent.

• The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, is in custody.
• According to law enforcement, Robinson allegedly confessed to someone close to him shortly after the shooting, which led to his arrest.
• The killing has sparked national outrage, tributes from Republican leaders, and renewed debates over political violence in America.

What’s next

• The State Department will likely release details in coming weeks about how many visas are being revoked.
• Immigration advocacy groups may push back, arguing for due process protections.
• Federal investigators continue to review Robinson’s digital footprint, including alleged confessions on Discord, to build the case.

TL;DR

• Marco Rubio announced the U.S. will revoke visas of foreigners who celebrated Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
• He said such individuals are “not welcome” and should prepare to be deported.
• Kirk, a conservative activist and Trump ally, was shot dead on September 10 at Utah Valley University.
• Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested and confessed to the crime, according to authorities.
