A 36-year-old woman participating in a YouTube survival challenge was rescued nearly 18 hours after she went missing in northern Michigan’s Pigeon River State Forest, police said.
The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was part of a group filming a survival show in the forest. On Friday evening, September 5, she reportedly left the base camp around 5 p.m. to look for water but never returned.
Her fellow contestants tried searching the area but failed to locate her. By early the next morning, concerns escalated and law enforcement was called in.

The Michigan State Police (MSP), in coordination with the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, began a full-scale search on September 6.
The operation included:
“The woman was a contestant in a YouTube survival challenge and had become lost the previous evening but was not reported until 5:00 a.m. the following morning,” MSP said in a statement.

At around 10:40 a.m., a police helicopter located the missing contestant in a swampy section of the forest. Video footage released by MSP shows her waving frantically to the aircraft while surrounded by thick trees.
Officers on the ground reached her soon after and escorted her out of the forest. Despite spending the night in cold, rainy conditions, she was able to walk out on her own.
Emergency medical staff evaluated her at the scene and confirmed she had no injuries.
