Broader Context

The arrest adds to a troubling series of domestic violence cases involving current and former athletes across college and professional sports. Advocates stress the need for more education, prevention programs, and accountability mechanisms both on and off the field.

Domestic violence remains a serious issue in Ohio. According to the Ohio Domestic Violence Network, the state reports hundreds of fatalities each year linked to intimate partner violence, with strangulation recognized as one of the most dangerous forms of abuse due to its high risk of lethality.

What Happens Next?

McCullough remains jailed pending his court appearance. If convicted, he faces significant prison time given the felony-level strangulation charge, which Ohio courts treat as a serious violent offense.

The case is ongoing, and no plea has been entered as of Monday.
