FASTag Annual Pass Launches On 15th August: Price, Eligibility, and How to Apply Online

Quick Summary

From August 15, India will offer a FASTag Annual Pass for private vehicles, giving 200 toll-free trips on national highways for ₹3,000. Apply via the Rajmargyatra app or NHAI website. It could save frequent travelers up to ₹7,000 a year.

Starting on August 15, 2025, India’s 79th Independence Day, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will roll out the FASTag Annual Pass for private vehicle owners. The scheme aims to make highway travel more affordable and convenient, offering up to 200 toll crossings for a one-time payment of ₹3,000.

What is the FASTag annual pass?

The FASTag Annual Pass works like a prepaid subscription for toll payments on national highways and expressways. Instead of paying for each crossing, eligible private vehicles can prepay ₹3,000 for the year, covering up to 200 trips.

  • Valid for: Cars, jeeps, vans, and other non-commercial vehicles.
  • Coverage: All national highways and expressways under NHAI; excludes state highways and state-managed toll plazas.
  • Validity: 12 months from activation or until the 200-trip limit is reached, whichever comes first.

Why it matters

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said typical toll rates range from ₹80 to ₹100 per crossing. At those rates, 200 crossings would cost ₹16,000–₹20,000. With the Annual Pass, each trip effectively costs ₹15, translating to potential savings of up to ₹7,000 for frequent highway travelers.

This could particularly benefit:

  • Daily commuters on intercity routes.
  • Families who take regular weekend road trips.
  • Professionals who frequently drive for work but do not operate commercial vehicles.

How to apply for the FASTag annual pass online

Applying is fully digital and takes just a few steps:

  1. Download the Rajmargyatra app (available for Android/iOS) or visit the NHAI official website.
  2. Log in using your registered mobile number.
  3. Enter vehicle details — including your registration number and existing FASTag ID.
  4. Check eligibility — your FASTag must be active, linked to the correct vehicle, and properly affixed.
  5. Pay ₹3,000 online using available payment gateways.
  6. Activate your pass — once payment is processed, the pass links to your FASTag, and you’ll receive an SMS confirmation.

Things to keep in mind

  • The pass is non-transferable and linked to a single vehicle.
  • Unused trips at the end of the year do not roll over.
  • If you cross the 200-trip limit before the year ends, normal toll charges will apply.
  • The pass is valid across all participating toll plazas integrated with the FASTag system under NHAI.
