Clips of U.S. sorority recruitment events are going viral online, coinciding with a wave of liberal backlash against Euphoria actor Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle jeans advertisement. In the ad, the blonde, blue-eyed actress says, “My jeans are blue,” followed by the tagline, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.” Critics argue the ad uses a wordplay between “jeans” and “genes,” subtly promoting Aryan beauty standards, a claim framed in progressive discourse as exclusionary.

Now, the surge of so-called “Rushtok” videos appears to be a counterpoint to that outrage.

Viral Clips Highlight ‘Good Genes’ Theme

Several X (formerly Twitter) profiles have shared videos of sorority recruitment events across the U.S., with captions celebrating what they call “good genes.” One post read, “Great Genes are BACK in the Golden Age of America. Sororities around the country are going viral posting videos of ‘Good Genes’.”

Another wrote, “Sorority sisters with good genes at the University of Oklahoma are getting geared up for rush with some cute and fun country dancing. They’re happy, wholesome, and classic America. Nothing is more triggering to leftists.”

A third user commented, “These sorority sisters are real beautiful women with good jeans, rocking the American spirit and fantastic choreography for the YMCA dance number. Bye bye woke and angry liberal women.”

From Oklahoma to Florida: The Rushtok Phenomenon

One X user provided a broader explanation of the trend, noting that universities from Oklahoma to Alabama, LSU, and Florida State are seeing “stunning clips of all-American girls in sundresses and boots” going viral. These videos — filmed during recruitment week or “rush” — feature synchronized chants, claps, and coordinated entrances.

“What started as a TikTok trend is now becoming a campus-wide cultural tradition,” the post read. “It’s not just one school anymore — it’s spreading coast to coast. Campuses are now prepping lighting, rehearsing entrances, and curating fashion as if prepping for a Netflix pilot. And the nation is watching.”

The user concluded, “Some call it a return to traditional American beauty. Others see it as a refreshing reminder of charm, unity, and optimism in a world that often feels divided.”

Fact-Checking the ‘Good Genes’ Label

Despite the online narrative, the ‘good genes’ sorority rush trend may not be entirely authentic. The sorority recruitment videos themselves are real, but Grok noted that, for one widely circulated example, Oklahoma’s Chi Omega did not mention “Good Genes” during their “Head Over Boots for Chi O” event. The label appears to have been added by online commentators rather than the organizations themselves.

What is Rushtok?

Rushtok is a TikTok-driven trend where PNMs (potential new members) document each stage of the sorority recruitment process. It began as a niche social media phenomenon but has since grown into a recognizable online subculture, even inspiring a Max documentary.
