Why did Dropkick Murphys target Donald Trump during their concert?

At a recent stop on the Warped Tour, punk rock band Dropkick Murphys unleashed a fiery political statement against U.S. President Donald Trump. Performing in front of a large screen broadcasting a montage of Trump’s past associations with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the band used its platform to call out what it sees as moral and political failures at the highest levels of power.

The move, led by outspoken frontman Ken Casey, reignited a longstanding feud between the band and Trump supporters—one that’s deeply rooted in their working-class ethos and unabashed political messaging.

What was shown on the screen during the performance?

As the band launched into its 2016 single “First Class Loser,” a barrage of visual content played behind them:

• A widely circulated quote from Trump in a 2002 New York Magazine article praising Epstein as “a terrific guy.”
• Footage from past public appearances of Trump and Epstein together.
• Still images and snippets aimed at highlighting Trump’s proximity to the controversies surrounding Epstein.

The video, shared by the left-leaning account Democratic Wins Media, quickly went viral online. It was captioned: “BREAKING: Dropkick Murphys just played this stunning montage of Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein at their concert. Retweet to make sure every American sees this.”

What does the song “First Class Loser” say about its target?

Although the song pre-dates Trump’s presidency, its lyrics appear tailor-made for political critique:

“Have you ever had a family or a friend that drove you crazy?
A foe or a neighbour who’s obnoxious, rude or lazy?”

In introducing the track, Casey took direct aim at Trump, describing him in crude but deliberate language:

“This next song is dedicated to a guy who wears orange makeup, sh*ts his pants in his diapers, rapes women, touches kids. It’s called First Class Loser.”

Such blunt attacks are nothing new for Casey or the Dropkick Murphys. What’s notable this time is the use of multimedia to reinforce their message—turning a concert into a kind of political rally.

How has the band previously addressed Donald Trump and his supporters?

Dropkick Murphys have long rejected any association with Trump or MAGA ideology.

At a Boston show earlier in 2025, Casey confronted a concertgoer for waving an all-black “MAGA” hat, calling it the “true Nazi edition.” He added:

“If you’re in a room full of people and you want to know who’s in a cult… they’ve been holding up a f**king hat the whole night.”

At a Florida concert, he expanded on why the band refuses to stay apolitical:

“We don’t care if we lose fans, because when history is said and done, we want it known that the Dropkick Murphys stood with the people, we stood with the workers.”

Their track record aligns with the band’s history of supporting labor rights and speaking out against political extremism.

What is Trump’s position on his ties with Epstein?

Donald Trump has repeatedly sought to distance himself from Epstein, especially in recent years.

• In 2019, Trump claimed he had a “falling out” with Epstein and banned him from Mar-a-Lago.
• He has insisted he was never invited to Epstein’s private island and called Epstein “persona non grata” at his resort.
• Trump has also said Epstein “stole” staff from him, including Virginia Giuffre, who later accused Epstein of sex trafficking.

In July 2025, the Justice Department reiterated that no “Epstein client list” exists—a response to persistent conspiracy theories about who may have been involved in Epstein’s criminal network.

Why does this matter for the music and political landscape?

Dropkick Murphys’ bold act of protest is not just a headline-grabber—it reflects deeper trends in how musicians are navigating the culture wars. Punk has always been a vehicle for political defiance, but in an era where public opinion and digital virality shape reputations overnight, bands like the Murphys are betting that taking a stand resonates more than playing it safe.

And their fans seem to agree. Social media reactions praised the band’s integrity, while detractors labeled the stunt divisive or “cancel culture theater.” But regardless of perspective, the performance undeniably put Trump’s contested legacy and Epstein’s dark history back in the national conversation.

What should readers take away?

Whether one agrees with Dropkick Murphys’ politics or not, their performance serves as a case study in how music remains a potent force for political discourse. It also reignites scrutiny over Donald Trump’s past affiliations and the ongoing public debate over accountability and image-making.

As the 2026 election season approaches, expect more artists to leverage their platforms—whether in support or opposition—to influence how history remembers those in power.
